Pimples are small hard inflamed spot or abrasion of the skin. They are the oil glands or sebaceous glands that get infected with bacteria and then start to swell and develop pus inside them. The most general cause of pimples is the oil glands and as the production of these glands increases from childhood to maturity, teenagers suffer from skin inflammations and they generally affect the face, neck, shoulder and back.
Causes and occurrence of Pimples
When the outer layer of our skin sheds, the dead skin cells sometimes get stuck to sebum produced by the oil glands. This result in blockage of the skin pores and the bacteria present in the sebum multiplies which results in the inflammation of the skin, known as pimples.

- Generally, pimples occur in puberty because this is the phase where overproduction of hormones takes place resulting in skin inflammation.
- As per a study, 80% of the teenagers suffer from this problem.
- Pimples usually starts to show up when a child is 14 years old and can even last till the age of 21.
- More than 30% of teenagers suffer from severe acne which can be treated medically only.
While blackheads are caused due to excessive oil glands, whiteheads are formed under the skin and that too are very small in size. Papules are small and round shaped inflamed spot on skin. Another form of pimple is pustules which is red and loaded with puss. Cysts are another form that you’ll find.
Best Remedies to Avoid Pimple
If you apply lemon juice on the pimples and leave it overnight, the presence of vitamin C in lemon will cause the pimples to shrink and will cure them faster as it has astringent properties.
Rub garlic pieces on pimples and wash off with water after keeping for 5 minutes. This will reduce pimples because garlic possesses anti-fungal and antiseptic properties,
Extract the juice of the peppermint by crushing its leaves and apply it on the affected area for 10 minutes before washing off with cold water. The menthol present in peppermint will kill the bacteria and reduce the redness caused by the pimple.
Cinnamon powder and Honey
Mix ½ tsp of cinnamon powder with honey and apply this thick paste on the pimples and wash off after 1 hour with warm water. Since honey has antibiotic property, it kills the bacteria causing the pimple.
In order to increase the glow of your skin along with reducing the pimples, you must try steaming as it opens up the pores in the skin and helps to get rid of dirt and oil.
Baking Soda and water
If you have a very sensitive skin, you must apply the thick paste obtained by mixing one tsp of baking soda with water and wash off once it dries. Remember to apply some moisturizer in order to avoid dryness.
Mix the powder of the dried orange peels with water and apply it on the pimples. Rinse off with lukewarm water after keeping for 20 minutes.
Make a paste by mixing neem powder with water or curd and apply it over the pimples. Alternatively, you can also apply neem oil directly on the affected area.
Mix 1 tbsp of mashed apple with honey and apply this paste on pimples. Rinse off your face after keeping for 15 minutes.
Mash some cooked pumpkin and mix it with honey, almond paste and olive oil to prepare a face mask. Apply this on the face and remove the mask after 10 minutes to reveal a cleaner and glowing face.
Make a paste of margosa or neem leaves and add turmeric powder to it. Apply it on the pimples and wash off after 15 minutes. The antiseptic properties of neem and turmeric will let you have acne-free face and that too naturally.
Apply ice packs
Wrap some ice cubes in a cloth and rub it over the pimples for 30 seconds in a stretch. Do the same for many times as the cold will remove the dirt and unwanted oil from the pores and thus reduce pimples.
Tea Tree oil
In case of mild pimples, wash your face before sleeping and apply the tea tree oil on pimples and keep it overnight.
Applying white toothpaste on those marks and leaving it overnight helps to reduce them because it contains mint or clove oil.
Aloe vera Gel
Apply aloe vera gel on the pimples and massage it for 2 minutes and then let it be on the face. Wash off after 5-7 minutes. Regular application of this gel will treat the pimple problem forever as aloe vera possesses anti-bacterial properties.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Rub apple cider vinegar on the pimples and let it fry for 15-20 minutes before washing off.
Extract juice out of cabbage leaves and rub it all over your face and leave it on the face as it is for half an hour before washing off. Apply an astringent to get effective results.
