Eczema refers to a situation where the skin becomes dry and itchy which causes the redness. It may occur as a result of allergic response to some substance.   • Change in climatic conditions

  • Hormonal changes
  • Extremely hot water baths

The symptoms for eczema are as follows-

  • Dryness in skin
  • Some areas of skin are cracked
  • Redness and itching in such cracked areas
  • Blisters on some of the swollen areas and bumps on the skin
  • The affected areas become hotter and the skin might become drier and scaly.

The side-effects of eczema include-

  • Stress
  • Irritation and frustration
  • Lowers the self confidence among children and makes them feel embarrassed about their skin in public
  • The infected person cannot practice sports and swimming or else the swear and water will aggravate the problem respectively

  • Putting away the symptoms during initial phase itself.

Eczema can be managed by undergoing-

1. Regular Bathing- in order to keep the skin hydrated and to remove the upper crust of the swollen skin.

2. Moisturize and hydrate- to avoid dryness and itching. To do so, keep in mind the following points-

  • Wear cotton clothes
  • Keep your nails short
  • Drink 8-10 glasses of water per day
  • Avoid sudden temperature changes

The medication for eczema depends upon the condition of the person. For minor condition home remedies would do but in case of severe eczema, medical treatment is required. However, the best way to control eczema is to hydrate the skin by using moisturizers.

Home Remedies for Eczema Scars

Bathing with oatmeal

Take 1-2 cups of ground oatmeal and add to lukewarm bathing water and soak your body in it for about half an hour and then pat dry the skin. Use this remedy for 2-3 times a day for effective results.

Honey

Since honey has antiseptic and anti-bacterial properties, applying it on the rashes will heal the scars. You can either apply it directly on the rashes or you can apply the scrub prepared by mixing honey and sugar. Wash off honey or the scrub with water after keeping it for about half an hour.

Aloe Vera

Apply aloe vera gel on the scars and leave it overnight. You might use it alone or in combination with Vitamin E oil. Wash off with warm water in the morning.

Lemon

The Vitamin C present in lemon helps the skin to produce new cells, thereby reducing the scars and toxins from the body. You can apply lemon juice directly on the scars or mix it with sugar and then apply on the affected area. Mix lemon juice with water and drink it daily to flush out the toxins form the body and hence make the healing of the scars faster.

Apple Cider Vinegar

The antifungal properties in apple cider vinegar prevent the redness and reduce the scars caused by eczema. You just need to mix it with two teaspoon of honey in a glass of water and drink it 2-3 times a day or dilute it with 1 part of water and apply on the scars to reduce the itching.

Shea Butter

Since Vitamin E and Vitamin A helps to maintain healthy skin, use shea butter and apply it on the affected area as it contains high amount of the desired above vitamins. You might also mix two parts of shea butter with one part of lemon and apply the paste on the affected area to leave it overnight.

Cocoa Butter

Eczema scars can be lightened using cocoa butter but remember not to use cosmetic products containing cocoa butter as the other ingredients might harm your skin.

Olive Oil

Use of olive oil also softens the skin along with lightening the body color due to anti-inflammatory property. Just apply the extra virgin olive oil directly on the scars and wash off using lukewarm water after a few minutes.

Fish Oil

Taking fish oil capsules reduces the scars caused by eczema as it contains omega 3 fatty acids which reduce the body inflammations. The daily dose should be 1200 mg three times in a day. Alternatively, you can consume foods that are rich in fish oil.

Coconut Oil

Rub the scars with virgin coconut oil as it has antiseptic properties which will reduce the itching and also moisturize the skin.

Nutmeg powder

Make a paste by mixing water and nutmeg powder. Apply it on the scars regularly to get rid of them.

Vitamin E

Break open the vitamin capsules and apply the oil on the scars but avoid synthetic Vitamin E. Alternatively, make a paste of nuts rich in Vitamin E like almonds and walnuts. Apply this paste on the scars.

Baking soda and water

Make a smooth paste of baking soda and water and apply it on the scars and rinse off with lukewarm water after massaging for 2 minutes. This helps in instant reduction in redness.

Bathing with sea salts

You might also take a bath with water having sea salts. Soaking yourself daily in salty water for 20 minutes would heal the cracks in your skin and will help in removing the infection and scars.
